How To Keep Your Summer Glow This Fall

Breath-taking foliage, crisp mornings, pumpkin spice lattes and cozy layers.  Autumn is here and it’s all about a new look, but just because summer is over doesn’t mean you have to retire your beachy glow.  Here are a few tips on how to keep your summer glow lasting through Maine’s cool fall months –

Tip #1 – Think Inside-Out

We’ve all heard that keeping your skin hydrated and moisturized doesn’t always mean applying face cream four or five times throughout the day – it means drinking lots and lots of water!  Switch it up a bit and give coconut water a try.  After trying it for the first time this summer at Mornings in Paris in the Old Port, I was pleasantly surprised at the unique & refreshing taste.

Tip #2 – Go Tanning (sort of)

Self-tanners have come a long way since the first Jergens lotion came out a few years ago.  We now have an abundance of choices ranging from high-end department store labels to Target brands, and they all actually produce a nice, healthy bronze glow. Whichever self-tanner you choose, be sure to exfoliate beforehand and thoroughly wash your hands to avoid any streaks (you don’t want to give away your secret!).

Tip #3 – Lip Action

Protecting your lips during the fall is just as important as it is during the middle of July.  Lips are the area that most people neglect when protecting their skin.  Excessive exposure to the wind, sun and cold causes lips to lose their natural, healthy color.  Lip balms and even some glosses include an SPF, making the process of shielding our lips from UV’s that much easier and convenient.

Tip #4 – Pamper Yourself

A visit to the spa is a foolproof way to keep your skin gleaming long into the holiday months.  Your skin will feel rejuvenated & healthy as you make your transition into fall.  P.S.  MainelyMara is giving you a great excuse to get that much needed facial with the Pumpkin Peel Facial offer from Nirvana Skin Wellness Center. Tip #5 – Get Inspired by Autumn Tones

Red Lipstick

Be creative and daring with your makeup by trying a bright lip color this fall.  Red lipstick was everywhere on the runways, designer look books and red carpet events.  Since red is such a bold color, a good rule of thumb is to keep everything else on the face simple and clean-looking.

Peachy-Pink Hue

Another trendy lip color this season is a peachy-pink hue.  It’s a timeless look and is a sure way to perk up your face at a time of year when it can start looking dull.  Plus, nothing screams confidence like a strong lip color!

Strong Blush

Keep that “just back from vacation” look with a strong blush.  Concentrate color on the apples of your cheeks (smile and you’ll see them) by blending soft pink and apricot shades for a healthy radiant look.
