Wrapped Up in Luxury at The Spa at the Portland Regency
I have to admit, although I seek out the best spa deals in town, I’m pretty boring when it comes to going to the spa. I’m a massage and facial gal, and never tend to branch out to anything more unique or interesting. Body wraps & scrubs all sound so amazing, but I always choose what I’m comfortable with. Luckily, one of the best perks of my job is making sure all of the offers I send out are truly amazing, and what better way to do this than to experience them first-hand?
So I headed to The Spa at The Portland Regency Hotel to get an Organic Detox Seaweed Wrap plus Kinmoxei Wild Lime Silk Oil Hot Stone Foot Massage. (It’s a mouthful, huh?) First off, the spa (tucked away down in the basement) is gorgeous & luxurious. You instantly feel zen as you get into your robe in the well-appointed locker room listening to the trickle of a water fountain. When I got into the treatment room, it was warm & perfectly dim (don’t you hate when spa rooms are too bright?), and the bed was soft & cozy. Let the “wrapping” begin…
The Wrap - For some reason, in my head I was picturing being wrapped up in layers of sushi-type seaweed and left there to “cook” as the seaweed worked it’s magic. Again, I am not an adventurous spa-goer so I didn’t know any better! But this wrap was nothing of the sort. It started with the first layer of seaweed, which felt like a gentle exfoliating scrub. I immediately smelled the scent of seaweed, which was pleasant and refreshing. The next layer was a seaweed gel, which felt silky and cool. Finally, the last layer was a seaweed mask, which locked everything in.
The Cocoon - To let the seaweed work it’s detoxifying magic, I was wrapped up like a little cocoon in what felt like layers upon layers of sheets and blankets. It was the most luxurious & cozy feeling…reminiscent of being tucked tight into bed as a kid. Normally, I would be left there in my little cocoon to relax, but not with this treatment. This is when the foot lovin’ beings and the hot stone foot massage was ah-mazing! At the same time as you feel the warm stones on your feet, you’re also feeling this incredible buzz as the seaweed works into your skin. Then you get a whiff of this delicious lime oil and you literally want to drift off deep into the Caribbean somewhere.
The Shower – Sadly, all of the seaweed goodness does have to come off, but not so sadly, the way in which you do so is in The Spa’s 16 (yes, 16!) jet Swiss Shower! It is the most exhilarating shower you’ll ever take. I’m not sure how The Spa doesn’t have a timer on how long you spend in there because I could have stayed in a lot longer than I did. But, I knew I had the last part of the treatment waiting for me, so I wasn’t all that reluctant to turn off the jets and crawl back onto the bed.
The Massage - The last part of the treatment was a moisturizing massage, which is more along the lines of the spa treatments I’m used to, so of course I enjoyed it thoroughly. Each part of your body that was wrapped in seaweed gets massaged with lotion. It’s the perfect end to a perfect treatment.
AHHHH - So am I going to be more adventurous now when it comes to picking spa treatments? Yes! Was I absolutely buzzing and at the same time amazingly relaxed after this treatment? Most definitely! My advice? Grab a girlfriend and make a spa day, treat yourself to some “me” time, or give it as a gift, because this treatment at The Regency is not to be missed.
