Goodbye Bean Boots, Hello Sandals
When you’re a Mainer, there’s nothing better than the beginning of Spring. The snow piles are getting smaller, the nights are getting longer, and you can finally put your puffer and Bean Boots away.
Once again, MainelyMara is delighted to give you an inside look on what’s going to be hot this season. We can always count on Bliss for bringing us the latest trends, so we spoke with Angie (owner of Bliss) about some of the biggest trends for Spring 2011.
1. Denim
Fashion loves to keep us on our toes, and nothing shows this more than the drastic change that’s occurring in denim. Just as we’re all getting used to the dark & skinny jean, here comes the wide leg flare back from the 70’s. From high-waisted super flares to the classic bell bottom, you’ll see some really dramatic interpretations out there, but Bliss will keep it toned down with some wearable flare legs in everyday washes.
Two other denim trends to look for are the slim bootcut and the crop. The slim bootcut is a nice, easy transition from the skinny jean and everyone can wear it. The crop, specifically the cropped bootcut, is a style you’re going to see heavily advertised by all of your favorite brands. (Be on the lookout for J Brand’s Spring campaign – the cropped bootcut is the headliner).
If you’re a skinny jean lover – don’t fret. Skinny jeans are still as hot as ever. Now you just have more options to choose from!
2. Shorts
“Shorts are more important this Spring/Summer than I have ever seen in my 12 years of buying!” says Angie. She is seeing twills in very wearable neutral colors, and denim both short and long (3″ to 10″ long). Yes, “jorts” are totally in! Bliss will have a wide variety – from twills in navy, olive & tan to denim in dark & clean or light & holey. There will be a short for everyone.
3. Frye
Good news for all you Frye fans out there – Frye is still on fire! From leather sandals to new Spring boots, there will be so many options to choose from. The new Carson Shortie Lace Up is already flying off the shelves! Of course Bliss will stock the newest styles as well, like the Shirley Riding Boot in beautiful Cognac (goes with everything!), and watch out for the brown suede version coming in next month.
4. Tees
The tee shirt will of course never go out of style, but this season it seems more popular than ever, with new fabrics and colors that we haven’t seen before (at least in a while!). Angie says, “The tee shirt world never ceases to amaze me…with the new styles, colors and prints it continuously finds season after season.”
5. Linen
Linen is always an important component to Spring & Summer in Maine, and lucky for us, it has really taken off with more & more designers offering it in their lines. From your basic button down to a cute flowy dress, you can wear linen in so many ways. Check out this adorable linen dress paired with your favorite Frye boots – a perfect Spring look that will also take you straight into Summer. Happy Spring!
