Lace is More
Just when you thought you had all the fashion rules figured out, another trend emerges from the runway that throws you a curve ball. First, it was navy and black. This once “never be caught dead wearing together” color combo is now perfectly acceptable (and actually quite chic). Then came sequins. These little shiny discs used to be reserved only for New Year’s Eve party dresses, but are now showing up on t-shirts and tank tops. Now, it’s lace… which is breaking out from your lingerie drawer and making a bold appearance in everything from handbags to footwear.
Here are 4 easy ways to have fun with lace this season. After all, Lace is More.
1. Lace Accessories
Spotted. Blair Waldorf wearing another adorable headband on Gossip Girl. Thanks to Blair, headbands have become one of the hottest hair accessories. You can incorporate lace into your wardrobe with a ladylike lace headband… such a classic, romantic look.
2. LBLD – Little Black Lace Dress
OMG, BTW, LOL. As if we don’t have enough acronyms to keep straight, here’s one more… The LBLD. It’s the little black dress with an added twist. The best tip for pulling off this style is to keep all of your accessories simple… just a simple bangle bracelet or a great pair of earrings is all you need. (Hint, hint – this would make a fabulous holiday look!)
3. Black Lace Tights
It’s hard to get through a season without tights, but this year more than ever tights are all the rage. Ribbed, wool, striped, and now of course – lace. Stick with basic black, wear them with solid colors, and you’ll be good to go. Hopefully we’ll be blessed with a late winter this year, but just in case, wear them earlier in the season before your legs get too chilly.
4. Lace Top
If you’re not ready for the full lace effect, a top with a touch of lace detail is a perfect way to incorporate this trend into your look. The contrast of a casual t-shirt with romantic lace is a match made in heaven, especially for Portland style, where we love being laid-back yet super stylish.
