Walking in a Winter Wonderland
It’s a dilemma all of us Mainers face come winter. You’re all decked out for a holiday party, bundled up in your festive winter accessories looking picture perfect and ready to go. Then you step outside.
As pretty as it may sometimes be, winter white snow (or even worse, the grayish sludge it turns into) is not fun to trek through in your holiday best. How in the world do you get from Point A to Point B in those sparkly stilettos? Yes, you have your trusty snow boots, but what do you do once you arrive at the party?
Here are some quick & easy tips on how to get through the snow AND stay stylish throughout the night:
Don’t be a Ballerina
First and foremost, whatever you do, do not attempt to tip-toe quickly through the snow in your nice shoes. (You know you all have tried it at least once.) Even if it’s just a few quick steps, your feet will inevitably get cold & wet, and even worse, your footwear ruined.
Pack the Shoes
So unless you are going to be carried in & out of the car, put on a pair of snow boots to make the commute and bring your dress shoes with you. As much as you love your fancy clutch, on a snowy night it’s best to bring your big day bag instead so you can throw your clean shoes in it.
Dress Up the Commute
Don’t think you have to wear your Bean boots on a fancy night out (but you can if you’d like!). “Dressier” snow boots do exist. Check out the wide array of adorable Hunter boots at Helene M., with cozy fleece welly socks that will keep you looking stylish to & from the party.
The Quick Switch
Once you arrive at the party, do not step foot in the venue in your slushy boots (no matter how cute they are). Whether the event is at a restaurant or a home, someone has spent hours cleaning and the last thing you want to do is be the guest who brings in the sludge. Simply do a quick & elegant change just inside the door – slip off your boots and put on your party shoes.
And there you have it – problem solved. Now all you have left to do is have a fashionably wonderful time this holiday season!
