Q&A with a Lucky Lady
Q&A with Noelle Sciacca, Fashion Market Assistant at Lucky Magazine
By: Keriann Russell, Fashion Insider, MainelyMara.com
I’ve always been an avid subscriber to fashion magazines; in fact, reading them is one of my favorite pastimes. There’s just something about browsing my favorite magazine while relaxing at the beach or while sitting in the park on my lunch break. Maybe it’s the crisp pages full of new & upcoming trends or reading articles about my favorite designer or celebrity… whatever it is though, I’m hooked.
Lucky Magazine has been one of my go-to reads each month for a while now – not just because my best friend works there, but because they have consistently set the bar when it comes to shopping & highlighting the best styles season after season.
Meet Noelle Sciacca, Fashion Market Assistant at Lucky Magazine. Keep reading as she gives us an inside look at all things fashion (lucky us)!
How long have you been at Lucky Magazine?
I’ve been at Lucky for a year & a half now!
We’re dying to know – what is a typical work day like for you?
At Lucky, it’s my job to go out into the market to see what clothing is coming out for the next season. Right now we’re previewing Holiday and Resort, and I’ll go on market appointments and take pictures of the clothes. When it comes time to work on the magazine’s December and January issues, I can look back at the pictures I am taking now and know exactly what pieces will be in stores at that time. It’s fun – it always gets me excited for the upcoming season!
When I’m in the office, I email with publicists to requests outfits for fashion spreads and cover shoots. I coordinate getting the clothing into the office and once the clothing comes in, my team and I edit what pieces we want to pass along to the magazine’s stylists.
Wow! What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part is seeing firsthand what the designers are going to be producing for the next season and deciding which trends will be the most prevalent and relaying them to the public. I like to think that I’m playing a small part in molding fashion history for this generation!
Speaking of upcoming trends, what are you seeing for Fall?
Navajo prints, seventies silhouettes, coats with fur trim, camel & mustard colors and mod mini skirts.
From the items you have seen already, what’s on your wish list for the approaching season?
Definitely a wool coat with fur lining! Here a couple of my favorites:
What’s your top style tip?
Dressing for your body type – it’s so important to know what works best for you! Highlight your best features when you dress; you’ll look your greatest when you know how to pair trendy pieces to your own individual body type.
This past weekend you visited Maine for the first time – what did you think of Portland’s fashion scene?
I really loved the variety of boutiques; a lot of them had the great contemporary brands that I love! I enjoyed the unique pieces I saw from local designers as well – there is a lot of exceptional talent in Portland!
You were here for one of the hottest days of the summer! What has been your go-to look for beating the heat?
A short, flowy skirt with an easy top makes for an effortless & fashionable way to stay cool in the summer. Fashion and comfort really can go hand in hand!
What advice do you have for MainelyMara readers who aspire to work in the fashion industry someday?
Do as many fashion related internships as you can! Experience is key – it will help you learn exactly which area of fashion you want to be in, and you’ll also develop invaluable contacts. I had 4 different internships before I landed my dream job – and each one helped prepare me in a new way!
A special THANK YOU to Noelle for chatting with us! We appreciate your time and your fashion insights!
